Fitness is not only about athletic performance; it is about the soft skills children develop when engaging in physical activity. Discipline, motivation and confidence cannot be taught – these skills need to be developed.

Paul Roos Gymnasium in Stellenbosch approached Gym Concepts to re-design and upgrade their out-dated school gym. The new facility needed to bring modern, high-performance conditioning capabilities to the school, while also forming part of a broader wellness programme developed for all learners.

The gym developed in two phases, culminating in what has come to be the flagship facility of the brand new Gym Concepts Schools Programme, in partnership with AlphaState and Reebok.

Solution

In order to put together the right solution, we worked closely with the school’s sports-conditioning staff to develop a world-class functional gym with the right equipment for all learners to benefit from.

A central feature is a wall-mounted AlphaState Rig. At first, the rig ran the length of a single wall, but with the facility’s second-phase upgrade, the rig was partitioned to form separate stand-alone exercise spaces for individual and group training. The rig brings a broad range of fitness options into a single area, with a variety of rig attachments such as rubber bands, rings and landmine sleeves extending its traditional push-and-pull functionality. The rigs are supported by two Eleiko Racks with integrated weightlifting platforms, storage and pull-up bars.

Ample training accessories such as AlphaState barbells, GYMWAY weight plates, dumbbells, benches, slam balls, plyometric boxes and kettlebells are stored on the periphery of the training area, leaving the large floor open for functional fitness classes. A strip of Astro turf was also included for sled and agility training.

For cardio we included Concept 2 RowErgs, SkiErgs and Bike Ergs, as well as Watt Bikes. These human-powered machines are mobile and offer industry-standard sports conditioning capabilities as well as versatility when included into functional fitness programmes.

Wall-to-wall AlphaState 15mm high-density rubber flooring finishes the gym off, offering a comfortable, non-slip surface for exercise, while ensuring that gym surface and equipment are secured from damage

ALPHASTATE RIG

The AlphaState Rig is a simple, affordable, modular and scalable fitness solution that changes the spatial framework of a fitness facility. Alphastate 20kg Nemesis Bar

The Alphastate 20kg Nemesis Bar is Alphastate’s premium Olympic Barbell suitable for athletes, functional, home- and garage-gym users.
